Welcome to our Website!

A platform for the exchange of ideas at a global level, the International Association of Penal Law is the world’s oldest association of specialists in penal law and one of the oldest scientific associations. The Association was established in 1924 to continue the activities of the International Union of Penal Law (1889), and our main fields of activity include:

Criminal policy and the codification of penal law;
Comparative criminal law;
Human rights in the administration of criminal justice; and
International criminal law (and, in particular, international criminal justice).

The AIDP-IAPL is open to all those who, in the different countries, devote themselves to the study of criminal law or are concerned with its application and who promote the development of legislation and institutions with a view towards providing a more humane and efficient system for the administration of justice. In addition, students and the Young Penalists are welcome in our Association and a special category of membership has been established for their participation.

The AIDP-IAPL establishes partnership with the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP). The IAP, founded in 1995 in the UN offices in Vienna, gathers prosecutors, prosecution services and investigators from all regions of the World. The AIDP and the IAP will engage in joint events on issues of common concern. Those members of the AIDP who are professionals who are or have been involved in prosecution or investigation functions at national or international levels may also want to join the International Association of Prosecutors.
