Mirjan Damaška award competition

On its meeting held on 16 July 2024, the Board of Directors of the Marija and Mirjan Damaška Foundation, based on Article 6 of the Statute of the Marija and Mirjan Damaška Foundation and Article 4, paragraph 3 of the Rules of the “Mirjan Damaška Award”, decided on the announcement for the “Mirjan Damaška award” competition.

The Award is bestowed for scholarly paper in the fields of:

-   criminal law, criminal procedure and criminal law history,

Conference on "Space and Time in Criminal Law" (Lisbon, 10-11 April)

A Conference of the Portuguese and Spanish Groups of the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP) was held in Lisbon on the 10th and 11th of April, at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, on "Space and Time in Criminal Law". The Conference encompassed numerous presentations on topics concerning jurisdiction over international crimes and cybercrime, crimes committed by transnational legal persons, the excessive length of criminal proceedings and statutes of limitations of the criminal procedure.

Call for Papers "Espacio y Tiempo en el Derecho Penal" (10-11 de Abril de 2025)

Las Secciones Portuguesa y Española de la ADIP lanzan este call for papers en relación a la Conferencia indicada. La pretensión es discutir las materias relativas al tema (1) espacio y (2) tiempo en derecho penal, incluyendo, aunque no de manera exclusiva, los temas relativos a (1.1) jurisdicción sobre crímenes internacionales y ciberdelicuencia, (1.2) delitos cometidos por multinacionales; también (2.1) duración excesiva del proceso penal y (2.2) prescripción del procedimiento penal.

Conference on THE ADVENT OF AI: RESHAPING CRIMINAL PROCEDURE - Luxembourg, 7-8 November 2024

This conference on THE ADVENT OF AI: RESHAPING CRIMINAL PROCEDURE - organized by the University of Luxembourg on 7 – 8 November 2024 - is dedicated to presenting the findings of the CRIM_AI project, an initiative launched in October 2021 and set to conclude in February 2025, funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund. The project investigates whether existing criminal procedure rules, particularly evidence law and procedural safeguards, adequately address the unique challenges and risks associated with AI.

Hommage à Robert Badinter (1928-2024)

L’Association internationale de droit pénal a appris avec une profonde tristesse le décès de Robert Badinter, le 9 février 2024. Les années, les décennies qui s’écoulaient sans altérer ni la dignité de son allure, ni la subtilité de son esprit, avaient pourtant fini par faire croire à la communauté pénaliste internationale qu’elle aurait toujours près d’elle cette figure tutélaire, cette référence morale.
