Full program of the AIDP XX International Congress of Penal Law

Dear Members of the AIDP,

Dear Friends,

We are all looking forward to the XX International Congress of Penal Law Criminal Justice and Corporate Business in  Rome 13-16 November 2019, organized by our Italian national group in cooperation with Luiss University. The Congress is of course a pivotal moment, as it closes an intensive cycle of scientific work during the last years and invests in new topics for the future. It is also an important moment in which the AIDP community meets and decides on the composition of the governance of the AIDP.

We offer you in Rome an excellent and attractive program that combines insight in our work and resolutions, based on the International Colloquia, and further reflection on the future developments. We also have made an effort to shorten the duration of the Congress, so that you don’t have to book a whole week for it. The full program has been uploaded. You can consult it at http://www.penal.org/en/aidp-xx-international-congress-penal-law-“criminal-justice-and-corporate-business”-rome-13-16 .

Since the Congress in Rio in 2014, I do believe that our cooperative work has resulted in substantial changes and progress. Important points of our policy agenda (Strategic Considerations of the AIDP/IAPL for 2015-2019, adopted by the Board of Directors in June 2015), have been achieved.  Other issues will however require further investment from our side.

The AIDP is an excellent brand, reflected in a wide range of activities at the national, regional and global level. Through these activities we are in constant interaction with the academic world, legal practice and policy makers. Criminal justice is not a safe haven, certainly not in times of great political and economic convulsion. Contributing to effective enforcement with due respect for the values of the rule of law/human rights  based on human dignity remains our mission and duty.

It is thanks to the great achievements of the national groups and all its members and the members of the governing bodies of our organisation that the AIDP remains an excellent community in which academics, policy makers and criminal justice practitioners  can share their experience, work together on topical issues and related publications and elaborate resolutions for the future.

I sincerely hope that many of you can make it to Rome and it will be a pleasure to enjoy your presence and participation.

Kind regards,

John Vervaele

President of the AIDP
