Invitation to Consider Supporting an Open Letter on Judicial Independence

Dear Members of the International Association of Penal Law,

I hope this message finds you well.

I would like to share with you an open letter prepared by a group of academics, legal professionals, and members of the national, European, and international criminal justice communities. This initiative was developed in the context of the third colloquium held in Paris in honor of Professor Mireille Delmas-Marty, under the theme Raisonner la raison d’État: Où en est l’Europe?

Mirjan Damaška award competition

On its meeting held on 16 July 2024, the Board of Directors of the Marija and Mirjan Damaška Foundation, based on Article 6 of the Statute of the Marija and Mirjan Damaška Foundation and Article 4, paragraph 3 of the Rules of the “Mirjan Damaška Award”, decided on the announcement for the “Mirjan Damaška award” competition.

The Award is bestowed for scholarly paper in the fields of:

Conference on "Space and Time in Criminal Law" (Lisbon, 10-11 April)

A Conference of the Portuguese and Spanish Groups of the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP) was held in Lisbon on the 10th and 11th of April, at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, on "Space and Time in Criminal Law". The Conference encompassed numerous presentations on topics concerning jurisdiction over international crimes and cybercrime, crimes committed by transnational legal persons, the excessive length of criminal proceedings and statutes of limitations of the criminal procedure.

Call for Papers "Espacio y Tiempo en el Derecho Penal" (10-11 de Abril de 2025)

The Portuguese and Spanish Groups of the AIDP open this call for papers to the abovementioned Conference, with a view to debating emerging topics on (1) space and (2) time in criminal law, including but not limited to (1.1) jurisdiction over international crimes and cybercrimes and (1.2) crimes committed by transnational legal persons, as well as on the (2.1) excessive length of criminal proceedings and (2.2) statutes of limitations of the criminal procedure.

This conference on THE ADVENT OF AI: RESHAPING CRIMINAL PROCEDURE - organized by the University of Luxembourg on 7 – 8 November 2024 - is dedicated to presenting the findings of the CRIM_AI project, an initiative launched in October 2021 and set to conclude in February 2025, funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund. The project investigates whether existing criminal procedure rules, particularly evidence law and procedural safeguards, adequately address the unique challenges and risks associated with AI.
